US-Norway 2004 School

Under the U.S. - Norway bilateral framework for collaborative energy research, the National Energy Technology Laboratory, DOE's Office of Clean Energy Collaboration, and the Norwegian Research Council provided funding support for a 10-day program on carbon capture and geologic storage in the summer 2004.

The program was held in Santa Fe, NM for 20 graduate and early career professionals from the U.S. and Norway with faculty from over 20 leading organizations representing U.S. industry, academia and national laboratories. The curriculum focused on carbon capture technologies, geologic storage, and measurement schemes and modeling long-term fate of CO2 in underground reservoirs.

The 2004 school highlighted DOE's demonstration projects including Hobbes, Frio and the Ohio River Valley/Mountaineer. The 2004 curriculum centered on lectures, a poster session, and a field trip and tour of the Kinder Morgan SACROC CO2 facility. Student and faculty evaluations reflected a strong consensus to expand and institutionalize RECS.

US-Norway SchoolThe 10-day program on carbon capture and geologic storage was held in August 2004 at St. John's College in Santa Fe, NM under the U.S.-Norway bilateral framework for collaborative energy research.   In 2005, RECS will be institutionalized as a U.S. Department of Energy program.
